WSU Faculty, Staff Welcome at Oct. 3-4 Career Expo and Technical Fair

PULLMAN, Wash.—Washington State University faculty and staff are encouraged to meet with employers when students and others seeking jobs and internships attend this fall’s Career Expo and Technical Fair on Oct. 3 and 4.

“It’s a great way for us to connect academia to employers offering jobs and internships, and to learn directly from recruiters what job skills are in demand for our students,” said Amanda Morgan, associate director of Academic Success and Career Center (ASCC).

“Of course, we also hope faculty and staff will encourage their students to attend the event. More than 250 employers will be there and that offers great opportunities.”

ASCC co-hosts the event each fall with the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture. ASCC is part of the Division of Academic Engagement and Student Achievement, in the provost’s office.

Morgan said that a virtual career event is set from 3-6 p.m. Mon., Oct. 3, and prospective student participants should register on the Handshake employment portal on the event website.  They should also register if planning to attend the in-person event from noon-4 p.m. Tues., Oct. 4, in Beasley Coliseum at WSU Pullman.

“To make it easy for participants, faculty, and staff to travel to and from the Expo on Tuesday, there will be a van shuttle running between the Compton Union Building (CUB) and Beasley that afternoon,” said Morgan.

“The Expo is open to all students from all majors. It’s a great opportunity to interact and network with employers from dozens of fields. Many companies are Coug-owned, and Coug representatives will be at Expo to engage with our students.”

Morgan also said that about 70 percent of employers are offering internships. That, plus the opportunity to simply meet and make connections, makes Expo a great place for first- and second-year students to explore the job market, possibly find their career passion, and identify prospects for their professional future.

In the days leading up to Expo, ASCC is offering a Career Prep Workshop series of presentations for students in-person and online. They range from preparing quality resumes to maximizing career fair experiences and more.

Expo participants can also find clothing to define their professional look for Expo by visiting the Cougar Closet. It is open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. til 5 p.m. in Lighty 180. Clothing there is available to all students and does not need to be returned.
